Build the foundations for academic success before pressure, panic or catch-up ever begin!

Created by a Miralee Askew, a former Headteacher and educator of over 40 years, who nurtured her own child to Oxford University.

A monthly advisory for parents who want to think clearly about early learning through play before mistakes become expensive.

Here's a poignant message sent to me from one of my newsletter subscribers whose child is preparing for the 11+...

"I wish I had created a love of reading whilst they were younger. Because of work and being busy allowed life to take over - and now they’re older and I want them to have books as their best friend it’s now a task because the fundamental years of instilling a love of reading has already passed. Whilst they will happily read now that’s very much with Mummy being pushy it isn’t their first choice I wish I knew between the ages of 0-5 years that what you teach during this period sets them up for years to come I would of definitely of chosen to do certain aspects of parenting differently."

Here's the thing...

There is no shortage of parenting advice.

But there is a shortage of discernment.

You probably feel surrounded by:

- contradictory expert opinions

- social media prevalence

- well-meaning but often shallow advice

and now, instant AI answers.

The result isn’t ignorance.
It’s a lot of mental noise.

And when it comes to early development, noise is costly.

The Foundations Brief is not a membership.

It’s a monthly recalibration.

The Foundations Brief exists for parents who don’t want more information.

It's for those who want to be sure they are thinking about their child’s development in the right way.

Not rushed.
Not reactive.
Not second-guessing every decision.

Just clear, grounded judgement, informed by decades of experience.

Why this matters more than ever

By the time learning feels 'important',
when reading, writing, reasoning or exams enter the picture,
the foundations are already in place.

Not knowledge, but it's how a child thinks, copes, listens, reasons and persists.

These things are shaped quietly, early and often unintentionally.

Most parents don’t need to do more.
They need to stop doing the ineffective things for the right reasons.

That’s what this brief is designed to prevent.

What the Foundations Brief actually is

Each month, you receive one focused briefing on a single foundational issue in early development, the kind that:

is often misunderstood

is rarely explained properly

and quietly shapes later academic confidence, including selective pathways

Such as:

what really builds a love of reading (and what undermines it),

why 'school readiness' is often the wrong goal,

how play either develops thinking or just fills time and

where parents unknowingly create pressure years too early.

This is not general advice.
It is strategic orientation and architecture.

What the Foundations Brief actually is

What makes this different (and worth paying for)...

You won't be paying for a document.

You'll be paying for access to decades of knowledge, sound professional judgement and discernment.

Each Foundations Brief includes:

1. A written briefing

Clear, concise and deliberately opinionated.

Designed to reframe how you see a common issue, not with a list of tips.

2. An audio version

For parents who prefer to listen and reflect rather than skim.

3. A live and recorded Advisory Q&A (45 minutes)

This is the heart of the offering which is not coaching, therapy or specific parenting advice.

The Foundations Brief is for you if:

You care deeply about your child’s thinking, not just outcomes...

✔ You want to support learning without pressure or hot-housing

✔ You value expert judgement over generic advice

✔ You understand that early years quietly shape later success

This is especially for parents who want their child to move through education, including exams like the 11+, without panic, tutoring dependence or loss of confidence.

This is not for you if:

✖ You want quick fixes or checklists

✖ You’re looking for activity packs or lesson plans

✖ You prefer to 'wait and see'

✖ You want someone else to take responsibility for decisions

Clarity requires ownership.

One final thing

Most parenting regret doesn’t come from what we didn’t know.
It comes from what we didn’t understand early enough.

The Foundations Brief is designed to intervene before regret has a chance to form.

If that resonates with you, then you’re in the right place.

Gentle beginnings.

Powerful futures.

Why I Do This Work

Hi, I'm Miralee, a former primary Headteacher with four decades of experience across state and independent education.

I have taught, led, assessed and supported thousands of children from early years through to high stakes selection.

I have also walked this path as a parent.

What I learned, both professionally and personally, is this:

The children who cope best later are not the ones who started earlier academically,
they are the ones whose
foundations were built securely through play based experiences.

My work is for parents who...

Care deeply about their child’s long-term success, want to support learning without anxiety or force, value expert guidance over trends and understand that

prevention beats intervention.

Whether or not selective education is on your horizon, strong foundations can change everything (I know this from experience with my own children).

Childhood is not a race.

But neither is it something to leave to chance.

The first five years shape everything that follows...quietly, cumulatively and powerfully.

My work exists to help families honour that window properly.
