Now, here are some important facts you need to know...

There are a gazillion ways to teach reading (even teachers can't agree and argue endlessly on the methods out there)!

Coupled with the fact that resources are becoming increasingly stretched in schools, with bigger class sizes...your child is very likely to need considerable resilience and effective coping strategies to manage getting far less attention than they are used to!

With larger and more demands in the classroom, teachers and staff are becoming more stressed as working conditions are stretched beyond recognition (from what I've observed in the last 40 years) and challenges are on the rise.

If you're homeschooling, you'll be spared the problems and politics of school life, and no doubt keen to get your little one started on the right reading track, without the need to spend a fortune on resources!

The concern is that young children have a relatively small window of opportunity to acquire CRUCIAL SKILLS...regardless of the conditions they may meet at 'starting school age'.

In other words, they get one main opportunity to optimise their capacity to leverage their natural gift for learning.

Ideally, they need optimum learning conditions to thrive and flourish in the first five years!

Make no mistake, your child has genius capacities BUT research has shown that, the older a child gets, the 'harder' learning becomes.

This is not commonly known, shared or discussed but below the age of 5, a child is masterful at absorbing vast amounts of information!

At 4, it’s even easier for the child.

At 3, it’s easier still.

Below 3...even easier AND BELOW 2, is when it’s the easiest and most impactful of all!

You are primed for allowing this genius to emerge in your child...the easy way!

One of the key skills that's often overlooked in the early years, is learning how to read in a way that's playful, engaging and effective (not the fault of practitioners, they're forced to focus on directed and often questionable priorities).

I'm DEFINITELY NOT talking about irrelevant flash cards and mindless worksheets that we so often see children expected to complete.

What I'm referring to is a style and approach that nurtures a love of books and reading from birth which ultimately switches on a keenness for learning which can last a lifetime (there's a ton of research on this too)!

Children's author, Michael Morpurgo, recently stated that, 'Establishing a 'reading culture' is vital for pupils' development, but schools face barriers to making this a reality'.

What's more...this approach is practical and will suit the learning style that your child favours.

Children want to play and they need it!

There's a lot of intrigue and mystery that surrounds the reading process but it really is quite simple...if you follow my Nurseryphonics™ framework!

So, if you are you unsure about how to get started with supporting your child's development or you're keen to give your child a gentle start in mastering important reading and language skills, book your first series of phonics play dates!

Imagine your child confidently recognising letters and starting to blend and form words through a play based format!

Would you like support to do all of this and much more with my Nurseryphonics™ Play Dates series?

However, if you think that your baby, toddler or pre-schooler’s too young for this, then keep reading...

Your child’s brain is a powerful learning machine in the early years...ramping up its potential (especially before the age of 3) can enable your child to glide into starting school displaying great confidence, enthusiasm and familiarity with learning.

Start getting excited for your child’s age and stage appropriate, fun filled early phonics sessions!

Although we can't guarantee any form of learning outcome or results, your child is very likely to benefit from this gentle and playful systematic approach which can spark interest and harness the power of reading for pleasure.

Each session is packed with interactive activities, engaging ideas and expert guidance which follows rhymes and action songs from my book, ‘Learn To Read With Rhymes’! (You don’t need to have the book to play along…but it will work best if you do...there's a link to it in the menu section!)

Hello, my name is Miralee. 👋🏾

I’m a former primary school Headteacher, school inspector and former school librarian. I was also appointed as a government adviser for Personal, Social and Health Education including Mental Health and Wellbeing.

I work part time as a learning support teacher at an independent school and in my business, I work as a Literacy/Reading tutor specialising in supporting 0-11 year olds in English - catch-up skills, reading, creative writing, spelling and grammar. I’ve worked with children of all ages and abilities including those with SEN, autism and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

I have a super simple and effective early reading and writing system for little ones (0-5s), with an accompanying book which gets them loving books, reading and writing in a fun filled way without the need for costly worksheets or screens.

I also work one to one with parents to guide them on how to nurture crucial language, literacy and communication skills, before school starts, and show them how to manage and circumvent the inevitable lack of individualised support available to their children in most schools, so that their potential is not limited or overlooked.

Having spent around 4 decades in education, I know a lot about teaching and learning and can talk about it all ‘til the cows come home! 😂

here are some benefits your child will gain!

Language Development
Early reading skills through awe, wonder and curiosity exposes your child to a rich vocabulary and diverse language structures. As they engage in imaginative play, storytelling, or reading activities, they naturally encounter new words and phrases, which helps expand their language abilities.

Cognitive Development

Reading-focused exploration stimulates cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving: important skills that are reportedly in decline in young children. Your child will learn to follow narratives, remember storylines, and make connections between different parts of a story, all of which enhance cognitive abilities.

Imagination and Creativity

Through exploration, your child can be immersed in different worlds and scenarios, fostering their imagination, creativity and understanding of the world about them. Your child will be motivated to take on various roles, create stories, and develop their own narratives, which will nurture their creative thinking.

Love for Learning
Reading through play will effortlessly introduce your child to the joy of learning. When learning is fun and enjoyable, children are more likely to develop a positive attitude towards education and become lifelong learners.

Increased Attention Span
Engaging in play-based reading activities often requires sustained attention. As children listen to stories or participate in interactive reading sessions, they gradually develop longer attention spans, which can benefit them in various learning situations. You'll undoubtedly watch your child acquire this crucial skill rapidly!

Enhanced Communication Skills

Reading-focused play involves conversations, discussions, and sharing ideas. As your child interacts with you (and other children) during play, they'll experience improved communication skills, both in listening and expressing themselves.

FAQ image

I don't feel qualified to teach my child - shouldn't I leave it to the experts?

First and foremost, you truly are you child's first and likely best teacher. Even though there's masses of information about child development and learning that many, like me, have trained for years to understand, there's a crucial window of opportunity, namely your child's first 5 years, that you are uniquely positioned to positively influence. Early intervention is key to maximising your child's learning potential. The first five years of life are critical for brain development, and this course provides a unique opportunity to lay a strong foundation for reading, language, and cognitive skills. By starting early, you're giving your child a significant advantage that can positively impact their entire educational journey.

FAQ image

I'm exhausted already...how much of my time will this take?

I remember how tiring it can be when looking after my young children, so every aspect of the Nurseryphonics™ is designed to honour your precious time and energy. The sessions are designed to have a positive impact on your wellbeing, as well as your child's, so you'll both likely emerge feeling happy, relaxed and connected with each other. The system is designed to fit seamlessly into your daily routine. Short, focused daily sessions of just 10-15 minutes can make a significant impact on your child's early literacy skills. Consistency is key, and the course is structured to accommodate busy schedules while still delivering meaningful results.

FAQ image

I have more than one child aged 0-5, can they all come?

Absolutely, the class is designed to suit all 0-5s! Siblings can attend for an additional £5 per session. If you are a childminder or wish to bring more than 2 children, I will invoice you separately in advance. Please email miralee@totstoteenstuition.com for this arrangement. However, please note, that the full and correct amount for your attendance will need to have been paid in advance for admission to the class. This condition is strictly observed at all times and, as such, regrettably, you and your children will not be admitted to the class unless you have paid. Please email: playdates@totstoteenstuition.com if you have any further questions on this.

FAQ image

How much are sessions and how long do they last?

Sessions are currently £12.50 and in person sessions last for around 45 minutes. You will be gaining exclusive access to seasoned and rarely available advice for your child's educational journey which spans 40 years! In addition, there are supplementary support sessions via email to help you develop the session content at home during the week PLUS monthly Q&A livestreams! Siblings can attend for an additional £5 per session. All sessions are booked on a half termly basis.

FAQ image

What if my child has already learnt to read?

Congratulations! If your child is already able to blend letters and sound out words, you clearly have done an amazing job! The play dates are also designed to also offer a child emotional comfort and opportunities to develop social skills too, so the sessions will still be of great benefit for you and your child as it strengthens and promotes bonding and can consolidate learning, build memory and extend knowledge already acquired.

FAQ image

Can I book a one-off session and are refunds available?

Unfortunately, one-off bookings are not available and payments are not refundable. However, you will receive supplementary support via email each week to help you introduce some of the content missed.
