Summer Writing Workshop Series...

For All Early Years & Primary Pupils!

If your child would rather wash the dishes,

walk the dog and alphabetise

your dusty spice rack than write a sentence,

then this summer workshop series is

for you!

If your child is showing signs of needing a literary agent...this summer festival of writing will have them swooning!

If your child is anything in between...you're in the right place!

Is your child is full of really exciting ideas…

until a pen or pencil is in their hand and the fear and doubt sets in?

They glare at the page like it personally offended them!

You might try to salvage the situation by saying something like

“Go on, have a go,” or more likely, "Look, it's got to be done by tomorrow!"

and they suddenly need a snack,

the toilet,

or to help fold the laundry!

Honestly, I know it's hugely frustrating but don't worry...

you’re definitely not alone.

Many children find writing difficult

(even the government

knows that the writing process is complex and takes time)!

According to the Education Endowment Foundation,

in their report,

Improving Literacy

in Key Stage 1,
writing is described as

a complex skill that

many children struggle

with, which can lead to

difficulties in

writing development.

It’s no wonder,

as writing asks a LOT from

young, inexperienced people.

Just think about the planning,

spelling, handwriting,

sentence structure, ideas, punctuation...

all whilst trying to remember

what they wanted to say

in the first place (the government, again, acknowledges the strain on a child's working memory and the build up of cognitive overload affecting the development of these challenging skills)!

There are also significant difficulties at KS2, where the gap in literacy attainment grows substantially between the ages of 7 and 11 that may well have been established at KS1.

But here’s the good news:

writing doesn’t have to

feel like a chore.

In fact,

it can become something

your child

actually enjoys!

What if your child actually loves writing?

They may be in a class where the writing process can't be explored or savoured due to timetable commitments and curriculum pressures...

They may be lacking guidance from an experienced practitioner or need help taking their writing to the next level!

Sign them up!

I want to champion their skills too and guide them towards important next steps to refine their work towards mastery level!

What the DfE says about writing - July 2025...it's hard for most!

Such a multi-faceted process is bound to be challenging for many but there are some fairly simple (and exciting) ways forward!

Sign up to the series to find out more to ease the stress (and keep up the practise) before the new academic year begins!

Introducing...

My Summer Festival Writing Workshops

(sessions will take place on various dates in July and August - catch up recordings will be available)

This completely free series of workshops

has been designed for ALL CHILDREN including those who ...

love writing and are good at it,

those who are very young and at the mark making stage and

especially those who are:

  • Just getting started!

  • Reluctant to write!

  • Lacking in confidence!

  • Stuck for ideas!

  • Perhaps 'behind' where you'd expect!

  • In need of more practise!

  • More likely to ask for a snack than a pencil!

The Free Summer Festival Writing Workshops will be popping up across the summer season in my Facebook group gently guiding young writers into the wonderful world of...

  • Fiction – with structure that sparks imagination, not stress!

  • Non-fiction – with topics they’ll actually want to write about!

  • Poetry – with playful language games that make it feel like magic!

I'll use clever, creative and research backed techniques to build writing confidence, and get words flowing, even from the most writing shy child. And for the parents who are wondering if they’re the only ones struggling with this. (You’re not.)

In fun-packed sessions, your child will experience proven strategies to help them realise that they can develop skills to become better at writing!

Some sessions will be quick 5 minute flashes of inspiration to get you started, others will be more project style designed to build and develop narrative!

You won't need to participate in all sessions (but you're very welcome to)...the idea is to help your child build a positive relationship with the writing process regardless of need or ability!

There will also be some LIVE sessions for Q&A, so that you can get the support and answers you need too!

CAN'T MAKE IT LIVE?

No need to worry...replays will be available!

What research tells us...

According to research, writing development lags behind in many children in these phases, especially those who struggle with vocabulary, sentence construction, or even just getting started.

A focus on skills...

That’s why I focus on oral storytelling, sentence starters and visual prompts. Bite-sized goals that feel achievable with positive reinforcement to build self-esteem.

Aiming for success...

The kind of results possible are children who begin to write with confidence, fluency, and even

enthusiasm!

Let's get the joy of writing started for your child!

Meet Miralee - your tutor for the sessions

Miralee is an experienced educator with over 40 years of helping children become confident learners. She’s worked across both the state and independent schools, at senior levels, supporting everyone from entrance exam candidates to reluctant early years scribblers.

As a parent of two very different daughters—one academic, one creative—Miralee understands that no two learning journeys look the same. Her mission is to make learning joyful, achievable and full of possibility for every child.

The Summer Festival Writing content outline

Fiction Writing Days

We’ll dive into the world of make-believe with simple but powerful techniques to help your child work towards either writing a whole paragraph or more if they're capable of doing so. Expect talk activities to get ideas flowing before they've even picked up a pencil.

Flashes of Inspo!

Tips, tricks and ideas suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children to strengthen skills and stimulate the writing process!

Non-fiction Writing Days

These sessions will help your child write about real-world things without it feeling like schoolwork
and we’ll explore fact writing through fun prompts to develop structure, sequencing and clarity.

Q&A Days

Parents and pupils will given time for

Q&A sessions related to all things writing!

PoetryWriting Days

We’ll spend productive time breaking the myth that poetry always has to rhyme (or be 'posh'), so these sessions will be all about wordplay, sounds, and exploring emotions through fun poetic forms.

We'll have time to begin to touch on each style of writing although fully completed pieces are unlikely to be produced in each session but your child will be supported to become enthused and engaged to continue with the writing process during the summer!
