IMPORTANT RESEARCH OUTCOMES FOR PARENTS WITH 0-5s

University of Cambridge and University of Dublin** researchers proved that babies process rhythmic information (i.e. songs and poems) much earlier than phonetic information (units of sound), so singing and ‘sing-song’ type speech helps to lay foundations for language, communication and literacy learning. Other research showed a vocabulary increase in children of up to 50% (in a singing vs. non-singing control group), whilst another study of a group of 64 preschool-age children found a strong correlation between early introduction to nursery rhymes and later reading/spelling ability!

MEET YOUR HOST

mIRALEE ASKEW campaigning for play BASED LEARNING at 10 downing street

with legendary and global Learning Through Play specialist, Greg Bottrill

Play is crucial vehicle of learning for young children and nursery rhymes, hands down, are key players for 0-5s in that journey.

The statutory Early Years curriculum is embedded in play, but it is under threat in our schools and very often, it's not happening in a way that nurtures learning; it's often just seen as recreational rather than a way to secure important skills, knowledge and understanding!

My work with parents with 0-5s advocates preparing crucial foundations for future learning success…all through play.

Hi, I'm Miralee, a former primary Headteacher with four decades of experience across state and independent education, and I'm here to support you on your journey as a parent.

I have taught, led, assessed and supported thousands of children from early years through to high stakes selection.

I have also walked this path as a parent.

What I learned, both professionally and personally, is this:

The children who cope best later are not the ones who started earlier academically,
they are the ones whose
foundations were built securely through play based experiences.
